As the news of Fidel Castro stepping aside poured in, it reminded me of a trip I took to Cuba 13 years ago. It was going to be all sun and games as far as I was concerned. But Cuba turned out to be a little more than that.

Too often we hear about academic and political perspectives that at times could be intellectually polarizing. Rather than attempt to offer yet another intellectual opinion, I would like to share my personal experience with Cuba.

It doesn’t work for everyone, and in some ways, it’s harder (or at least, more time consuming) than it looks, but for anyone who wants to get into swapping, I’ve assembled a few tips for newcomers. WASHINGTON — Amir Khan says he becomes frustrated and humiliated every time he enters the United States and federal agents search his computers. Khan, a Pakistani-born U.S. citizen, says it has happened five times since 2003. He says agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection have even forced him to give them access to password-protected, confidential information from his company and his banking records.

I hesitated about a microsecond before posting this unusual jewelry making competition. There is a contest held by Land of Odds (and sponsored by a few other companies) to design the ugliest necklace possible. There’s a reason I didn’t picture any of the previous winning entries here. =) Have a look for yourself. The contest is currently open and they will stop accepting ugly necklace entries on March 15.
