XFM Brand Room Oh joy! Not a year had passed since my last trip to one of my favorite cities and here I was again. I really must be doing something right to have lucked out on another trip back to London. And, for the first time, the British Council had my me and my mom (who hasn’t been here in 20 years) picked up in a swanky new Jag, complete with a chaperone! What was this all about? I had never gotten this treatment before!

And just like any relationship, there are some people we are compatible with and others we are not suited to at all.
A factor that can play a key role in how this relationship pans out is the size of the airline seat. It's a simple fact that a seat that accommodates one person may not be the right fit for another.
It's a situation I discovered recently when flying economy from London to Tokyo.

I was born in the mid-50s and grew up in the turbulent ’60s and the bland ’70s. It was a great time to be a child, but it was equally tough to be a dad back then. The role of fathers in the domestic landscape was that of benevolent benefactor, something of a benign king overseeing his kingdom. Dads brought in the bacon, and moms ruled the home front and cooked it up. Unlike the modern fathers of today, men weren’t encouraged to buck traditional roles and become more involved in their children’s lives.
My father was like that.
My father came from a traditional family.

I was surprised to see that I have never included L’Artisan Parfumeur’s signature scent, L’Eau de L’Artisan, in a Top 10 of Summer article. This 1993 fragrance by perfumer Olivia Giacobetti has long been one of my hot weather staples, and it is one of very few bottles in my collection that I drain and replenish on a regular basis. L’Eau de L’Artisan’s opening is bright and crisp, with lots of sharp verbena (the notes: lemon, verbena, basil, mint, tree moss, hay, seaweed).

Well, the dominoes are starting to fall. After foreboding rumblings emerged from the US Airways shareholder meeting on Wednesday—including a prediction that the carrier’s fuel bill will total $2 billion this year—the airline announced Thursday sweeping cuts and a flurry of new fees. First up, it will add a $15 fee for first checked bags, making it the third legacy line to do so. The fee will affect tickets purchased after July 9, and will apply to all domestic flights as well as service to Canada, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
