Burberry has launched the masculine counterpart to The Beat For Women, introduced earlier this year. According to Burberry’s Creative Director, Christopher Bailey, The Beat For Men… …captures all the characteristics of the beat man, it’s masculine, effortless and distinctive with a modern, original identity. Like the women’s scent, The Beat For Men was inspired by music. Perfumers Olivier Polge (who also worked on The Beat For Women) and Domitille Bertier were reportedly given music from the bands The Fratellis, Razorlight, Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys.

In the winter and spring, we saw airlines adding charges for second-checked bags, perhaps the most surprising industry development in recent years—until American unveiled the first first-checked-bag fee in May. Since then more than half the country’s major airlines have added first-checked-bag fees, not to mention charges for onboard beverages, and have raised fees for everything from carry-on antlers to checked surfboards.

For six years, Kate Stone has flown home to her parents place in Salt Lake City for the holidays. However, this year, the Boston resident thinks she may have to cancel the trip because of the high cost of airfare. “In the past I never paid more than $400 for a ticket, but after months of closely watching airfare prices this year, I haven’t been able to find anything below $600,” says Stone. “Once I factor in the time I have to miss from work and other holiday expenses, it doesn’t leave me with a lot of wiggle room to spend on airfare.
